A MAN and woman have been charged with attempted murder after a huge blaze broke out at a block of flats.
Fire crews were called to the scene of the inferno on Francis Street in Lochgelly, Fife, just after 7pm on Monday.
Chloe Arnott, 30, and Jamie Morrison, 33, were charged with wilful fire raising to danger of life, and attempted murder, in connection with the fire.
The pair made no plea in relation to the charge at Dunfermline Sheriff Court today and were both remanded in custody.
Thick plumes of smoke could be seen billowing into the sky as crews worked to extinguish the inferno.
Dramatic images from the scene showed the top of the four-storey building engulfed in flames.
The roof was completely destroyed and caved in as a result of the fire.
A number of residents were evacuated from their homes and a rest centre was opened at the Town Hall for those affected.
Three fire engines, specialist resources and cops worked to extinguish the blaze affecting the roof.
One local said: “It didn’t take long for the entire roof to collapse into the building.
“It was frightening how quickly it all happened.”
