Man caught wind scooting down main road in Alkimos attracts backlash from residents

An intrepid scooter rider has captured the attention of local Alkimos residents after he was spotted flying down the main road at a rate of knots, quite literally.

Hey Perth’s Facebook page caught wind of the brazen rider, posting a video which appeared to show a windsurfing sail fixed to the front of the scooter which allowed him to gather pace as he rode along the footpath passing cars.

The post was captioned: “Wind scooting in Alkimos!!!!”

Locals were quick to chime in with their eye-witness accounts of the incident, which was apparently not a one-off.

“Seen him twice in the middle of Marmion Ave heading north… f’in dangerous,” said one man.

Another said: “Saw it the other day, thought I was seeing things.”

One commenter suggested the man should follow the way of cyclists and stick to the road where possible.

“Bit dangerous for other users, not hogging the pathway much maybe should go on the road.”

A local with a sense of humour and pride in his quirky suburb said: “This is how we do in Alkimos, son”.

Fortunately for the man — who is yet to be named — residing in the beach-side community of Alkimos should offer adequate wind to get around, at least in the afternoons.

Alkimos is a coastal suburb of Perth, located 42km north of the CBD and housing an estimated population of more than 11,000.

The reel, which was posted on January 20, has since attracted more than 200 likes and 49 comments.
