Mandurah sex assault: Police wanting information from public to identify man seen in area who may assist

Police have released footage of a man who may be able to assist police with their investigation into a terrifying sexual assault on a woman inside her Mandurah home.

Detectives continue to investigate after a woman was physically and sexually assaulted in her Allnutt Street property by a man about 3.10am on March 5, police said.

An unknown man allegedly entered her bedroom while she was asleep and attacked her. Police say the victim, aged in her 20s, screamed and the man fled.

Detectives from the sex assault squad have released footage of a person seen in the area who may be able to assist with their inquiries but need the public’s help to identify the man in the vision.

At a press conference after the incident, Detective Senior Sergeant Clinton Bragg said the attack was both scary and traumatic for the woman.

“It’s alleged that he (the man) attacked her in her bed before she screamed and he ran off,” Det. Sgt Bragg said.

“The public have a right to feel safe in their bed.

“The young lady is very traumatised and this is unacceptable.”

Det. Sgt Bragg said police had spent all day in the Mandurah area canvassing for CCTV and speaking to witnesses.

He said some people who lived with the woman came to her aid when they heard her screams.

“Lucky for her, when she screamed they came to her assistance,” the officer said, adding that police would be doing all they can to catch the person responsible.

“We’ve spent all day there (in Mandurah), the investigation is still centred around that area,” he said.
