The Spanish fashion brand is ramping up its presence in physical retail, particularly in Italy. Mango has recently opened its new flagship store in Rome and unveiled its expansion plans for the market, intending to reach a total of 100 stores by year-end.

To achieve this, the company, led by Toni Ruiz, plans to establish 15 new locations, including both company-owned stores and franchises, over the coming months. Expansion efforts will focus on southern and central Italy, as well as key northern cities such as Bologna and Genoa, where it will open its first store, and Verona, where it plans to launch its first city-center boutique, complementing an existing location in the Adigeo shopping center. Additionally, the project aims to integrate the “New Med” store concept throughout Mango’s retail network.

This series of openings has been headlined by the new flagship store in Rome, situated in the historic Alberto Sordi shopping gallery on Via del Corso. With a retail space exceeding 1300 square meters, the store features products from women’s, men’s, and children’s collections. Concurrently, the brand will enhance its presence in Rome with a new store on Via Nazionale, one of the city’s main thoroughfares. These additions follow recent openings in the Porta di Roma and Romaest shopping centers.

“The opening and refurbishment of stores in Italy are part of our 2024-2026 strategic plan, which includes over 500 new openings globally in the next three years to further strengthen our omnichannel distribution ecosystem,” stated Daniel López, Mango’s director of expansion and franchises, in a statement released on Tuesday, June 4. Emphasizing that Italy is a “key market” for the company, he added, “The success of our openings in 2023 reinforces our strategy to enhance market penetration and bring us closer to our customers by offering them the Mango experience through our stores.”

Additionally, the Barcelona-based company plans to renovate five stores in 2024 to implement its new brand image. Notably, this includes the refurbishment of the over 1300-square-meter flagship store in Milan’s Galleria del Corso. The brand will also update its stores in train stations, including locations in Florence and Venice, which specialize in women’s fashion.

Founded in 1984, Mango did not enter the Italian market until 2001. Throughout the 2010s, the company expanded its presence with over 50 points of sale, including high street stores in major cities and corners. Two years ago, Mango embarked on a new expansion plan, opening eight new stores and reaching 80 locations by year-end. Last year, the brand opened 15 new stores, particularly in the north of Italy, expanding its network to 92 points of sale in the market. Today, Mango also operates in Italy through its online store and other marketplaces.

In 2023, Mango achieved record sales of €3.103 billion, doubling its profit to €172.1 million.
