Manhunt underway in Arizona for man who threatened to kill Trump

(NewsNation) — Arizona authorities are searching for a man who allegedly threatened to kill former President Donald Trump.

Officials with the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office say they are looking for 66-year-old Ronald Lee Syvrud, who they consider an “investigative lead for threats to kill a presidential candidate.”

Carol Capas, spokeswoman for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, told NewsNation the threats against Trump, the Republican candidate for president, were made on social media. No further details were available.

The 66-year-old has several outstanding warrants on separate charges, including for a DUI and failing to appear in court in Wisconsin. He’s also wanted for failing to register as a sex offender and a hit-and-run in Arizona.

The alleged threats came ahead of Trump’s visit to the U.S.-Mexico border in Cochise County on Thursday.

When authorities went to arrest Syvrud at his home on Wednesday evening, they couldn’t locate him, Capas confirmed.

Syvrud is described as a 6 foot tall white male with glasses and approximately 220 pounds. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call their local law enforcement agency or 911.

The threats come just six weeks after Trump survived an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.

Capas said local authorities are working with state and federal law enforcement partners.

This is a developing story that will continue to be updated.
