Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” Dominates YouTube Music Charts

Spotify’s famous Wrapped campaign has probably already taken over your social media feeds, but it isn’t the only platform reporting music trends.

YouTube Music unveiled its chart placements for this week (dated November 17 – November 23), and it’s no surprise that Mariah Carey remains on her Christmas throne. Carey’s Christmas tune “All I Want for Christmas Is You” soars to No. 1 on YouTube’s charts, snagging the top spot on US Top Songs with over 5 million views and No. 2 on US Top Songs on Shorts. On a global scale, the holiday hit has garnered 22 million views during the period, landing at No. 3 on the Global Top Songs chart.

Just last week, her spirited record returned to the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 17 (dated November 25), accumulating 14 million streams, which was an overall 29% increase in plays, according to Luminate. In the latest report provided by Luminate, Carey skyrocketed to No. 4 on the Hot 100 with 22 million streams (giving it a 57% boost) and 15.6 million airplay impressions.

Since 2019, the performer has topped the Hot 100 with the song every year. Spending 59 total weeks on the listing, Carey is tracking to hit No.1 this season, seeing that she begins the single’s official marketing campaign each year on November 1 via social media for a head start advantage. Her most recent video announcement has generated 15.6 million views on TikTok alone.

Mariah Carey isn’t the only artist spreading the Christmas cheer. Wham!’s “Last Christmas” also surges to No. 21 on YouTube’s US Top Songs chart, making it the only other song to make the top 25 on the list other than Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” “Last Christmas” has only ever peaked at No. 4 on the Hot 100 and is currently at No. 13 on the chart.

Brenda Lee is steadily following the momentum with her newly-released visual for her classic, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” which was released three weeks ago on YouTube. It has already amassed over 1.5 million views, landing at No. 56 overall on the YouTube US Top Songs chart. The Yuletide tune jumped to No. 8 on the Hot 100 this week, but has never reached the top spot — only landing at a peak position of No. 2. Perhaps this is the year she beats out “All I Want for Christmas Is You” for a top placement on the singles chart?

While Christmas music continues to warm up (and defrost) just in time for December, some notable placements rounded out YouTube’s Billion Views Club. Michael Jackson joined the club with his 1983 hit, “Beat It,” making this his third video to reach the milestone after “Billie Jean” and “They Don’t Care About Us.”

Additionally, Rihanna’s “What’s My Name?” featuring Drake, Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away” and Foster The People’s “Pumped Up Kicks” were also the latest additions to receive the accolade.
