Witness Emil Tomsberg said the 16-year-old plummeted 10 metres when he went too close to the edge of a cliff and lost his footing.

“He was grabbing for branches, and he didn’t get it fully. Then he started sliding with his feet, sliding further down, and then losing control,” he told 9NEWS.

“He had really bad marks on his hip, and we think he might have damaged his spine or neck. Definitely has a broken left arm.”

The teenager was winched into the rescue helicopter before being taken to RPH around 3.30pm. He is in a serious but stable condition.

The area is popular for hiking and is near the iconic Sixty Foot Falls within the Ellis Brook Valley Reserve.

It comes less than a day after an eight-year-old boy was winched to safety by the rescue chopper after he fell several metres at Lesmurdie Falls.
