‘Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’ Review (PS5): Amazing, Not Quite Spectacular

Sony’s Spider-Man 2 video game initially felt like a rehash of the first game, but eventually managed to surpass expectations. Although hindered by its slow start and unnecessary open world, the game excelled in its main storyline, voice acting, visuals, and combat. The expanded version of New York City introduced the villain Kraven, who sets out to hunt down current and former supervillains. However, players will have to wait a long time for the arrival of Venom. The open world aspect of the game fell short, as the larger city simply meant that everything was more spread out. The game also featured various minigames and points of interest, similar to its predecessor. The combat, however, was enjoyable, allowing players to mix powers and gadgets as both Peter and Miles. Playing as both characters revealed some overlap, although Miles had some unique abilities. The voicework in the game was of top-notch quality, and the portrayal of Venom was exceptional. Despite some drawbacks, the game built up momentum and delivered an intense and memorable ending. Overall, Spider-Man 2 is highly recommended for fans of the franchise and action games. The game hints at potential future releases, but for now, it provides more than enough Spider-action.
