Mary-Kate Olsen and Her Gnome Beanie Don’t Care That It’s 80 Degrees

It may be spring, bordering on summer, but Mary-Kate Olsen doesn’t seem to mind. The creative director of The Row seemingly rekindled her relationship with Canadian hockey player Sean Avery over dinner in Los Angeles. But, given her heavy layering, we wouldn’t blame you for assuming she was dressed for a Canadian winter.

Olsen wore a calf-length dark red velvet coat over black trousers, and a pair of black flat mules. In keeping with her boho roots, she added a chunky gold ring. Always inclined to go incognito, she wore a pair of rectangular sunglasses and a plaid scarf. Although, if Olsen was trying to keep her dinner with Avery lowkey, she opted for one particularly eye-catching accessory that was anything but.

Most striking of all was Olsen’s impossibly tall, gnomish beanie, which she declined to cuff, letting the tan hat defy gravity atop her head. The wild look comes just after The Washington Post’s Rachel Tashjian extolled the virtues of the impossibly tall hat in the most recent edition of her invite-only style newsletter Opulent Tips. (Is MK a secret OT reader? Inquiring minds would like to know.)

Despite the incongruent weather, Mary-Kate Olsen is committed to her style. Who knows, maybe next winter we’ll all be wearing gnome beanies, too.
