Memphis Grizzlies Star Ja Morant Out For Season With Torn Labrum

Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant is out for the season with a torn labrum in his shoulder, the team announced Monday night.

The Grizzlies said Morant suffered the injury on Saturday and that an MRI revealed an “underlying tear.” He is set to undergo season-ending surgery.

The injury is the latest blow for Morant, whom the NBA suspended 25 games to start this season after he posed with a firearm in a car during a live-streamed video on May 13,

Morant returned Dec. 19 in New Orleans, and hit the game-winner in a 115-113 victory.

The No. 2 pick overall in the 2019 draft, 2020 NBA Rookie of the Year and 2022 Most Improved Player has been suspended for a combined 33 games since he first was caught flashing a gun on a social media livestream March 4.

He was averaging 25.1 points, 8.1 assists and 5.6 rebounds for the Grizzlies (13-23).
