The body of TV personality and doctor Michael Mosley has been found on the Greek island of Symi following an increasingly desperate search, British media are reporting.
The Sun reported that a body had been found, alongside an umbrella, close to a network of caves known to locals as “The Abyss”.
The remains are awaiting formal identification, according to the UK tabloid — who also said local police officials believed the body to be that of the missing Brit TV presenter.
A police spokesman reportedly added the body was found on a rocky coast by a private boat.
Reuters news agency also confirmed the discovery of the body.
The tragic find comes just a day after Mr Mosley’s wife, Clare Bailey, spoke powerfully of the “longest and most unbearable days for myself and my children”.
In a statement yesterday, Dr Bailey, 62, said: “It has been three days since Michael left the beach to go for a walk — the longest and most unbearable days for myself and my children. The search is ongoing, and our family is so incredibly grateful to the people of Symi, the Greek authorities, and the British Consulate, who are working tirelessly to help find Michael. We will not lose hope.”
Dr Bailey last saw her 67-year-old husband on the secluded St Nicholas beach on Wednesday. He had set off to walk to the town of Pedi, from where he was expected to catch a bus back to his villa in the port of Symi.
However, the CCTV footage taken in Pedi at about 2pm shows him heading for the mountains instead.
Since then, and despite a massive search operation involving dogs, drones, helicopters, and divers, the writer and broadcaster have not been seen.
David Brown, a writer with The Times newspaper, suggested that Ms Mosley’s body may have been found by British reporters on the island to cover the unfolding mystery.
“Heartbreaking news in the search for television doctor Michael Mosley. A body had been found at a fence close to the beach resort of Agia Marina. The area was searched yesterday,” he wrote.
“The remains are close to a popular beach bar on the other side of the fence. Body discovered by UK journalists.
“Body is decomposed, suggesting it has been there for several days.”
Another journalist, Niki Kitsantonis — a freelance reporter who has worked for the BBC and the New York Times — wrote on ‘X’ that deputy mayor Nikita Gryllis had confirmed the discovery.
And the BBC itself was reporting a rescue worker telling them a body had been discovered.
