Firefighters are battling to control a bushfire in Perth’s north-east which has scorched about 18 hectares and residents in parts of Middle Swan have been urged to leave if the way is clear.
The fire, which was first reported about 2am on Friday near the intersection of Farrall Road, and O’Connor Road in Stratton is not contained or controlled.
The blaze is moving in a west, northwesterly direction and residents are warned that burning embers are likely to be blown around homes.
About 50 career and volunteer firefighters are out on the scene actively battling the blaze.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued a watch and act alert at 5am on Friday, with residents in the areas bounded by Toodyay Road to the north, Farrall Road, Lewis Jones Cross to the east, Belpaire Road and Mogumber Avenue to the south and Roe Highway to leave unless they are prepared to actively defend their homes.
“There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is approaching in the area and conditions are changing,” the alert says.
“If you are not prepared or you plan to leave, leave now if the way is clear.“If you are well prepared and plan to actively defend your home, make final preparations now.”
