Midland man Matthew Stevenson left with broken cheek and split scalp after brutal attack outside Bali club

A Midland man was left bleeding in a Balinese hospital after a savage beating outside a Kuta nightclub.

Matthew Stevenson was enjoying his Friday night at the Sky Garden nightclub when he was beaten up by a group of men, leaving him with a broken cheek and split scalp.

He believes dancing with one of the men’s sisters is what provoked the attack, for he nearly paid a fatal price.

“I was just trying to defend myself, even in the video you can see I look kind of lifeless,” he said.

“There’s always cases of that happening, people hitting their head and dying or incurring brain damage. It could’ve been much more severe.”

To make a bad situation worse, time is running out for Mr Stevenson to find his stolen passport and pass a medical clearance to fly home if he wants to make his brother’s wedding on Wednesday.

He said missing that would be a bigger blow than anything his attackers inflicted on him.

“I don’t understand why they have this attitude and think they can come to a foreign country and be disrespectful to A, the law, and B, other people,” he said.
