Milind Deora: Congress’ aim is to just oppose PM Modi. If he says that Congress is a good party, they will oppose it: Milind Deora after joining Sena

Hitting out at Congress, Milind Deora has said that Congress today has just one aim – oppose whatever Prime Minister Narendra Modi says.

“The same party that used to offer constructive suggestions to this country, on how to take the country forward, has now just one goal – speak against whatever PM Modi says and does. Tomorrow, if he says that Congress is a very good party, they will oppose it,” Milind Deora said after joining Shiv Sena.

“I believe in the politics of GAIN – Growth, Aspiration, Inclusivity and Nationalism. I don’t believe in the politics of PAIN – Personal Attacks, Injustice and Negativity,” Deora added.

Milind Deora, former Union minister and ex-MP from Mumbai South, quit Congress on Sunday, expressing his commitment to the “path of development.” Speaking to reporters at his residence named ‘Ramalayam’ on Peddar Road, Deora stated, “I am choosing the path of development,” as he left with his wife Pooja to visit the Siddhivinayak Temple in Prabhadevi for prayers.

Interestingly, Sada Sarvankar, an MLA affiliated with the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde and also the temple trust chief, was present at the temple.

Earlier in the day, on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Deora shared a post, stating, “Today marks the conclusion of a significant chapter in my political journey. I have tendered my resignation from the primary membership of the Congress, ending my family’s 55-year relationship with the party. I am grateful to all leaders, colleagues, and karyakartas for their unwavering support over the years.”The resignation of Milind Deora from the Congress adds to a growing list of young leaders who have left the party to explore new opportunities, predominantly aligning with the BJP. This departure underscores persistent concerns among young leaders, once closely associated with former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, and also highlights the perceived lack of connection and accessibility of the Gandhi family with the lower echelons of party leadership. This trend is occurring against the backdrop of the declining fortunes of the grand old party, a situation that the younger leaders find difficult to reconcile.

Sources close to Deora revealed that his decision to leave the party was prompted by a “very long and futile wait.” Apparently, the former Lok Sabha MP was unable to secure assurance from his own party regarding the opportunity to contest from Mumbai South in the upcoming general election. This seat has been represented by his family for decades.
