A DUAL TV boost is coming to millions in the form of two new music channels, just weeks before Channel 4 culls its own offering.
Swedish startup Staccs, which launched in the UK, Spain and Italy earlier this year, has partnered with Samsung TV Plus to bring its own music video channels to viewers for free.
The channels are what’s known as FAST channels, which stands for free ad-supported television.
Staccs TV Throwback and Staccs TV Celebrate will be available to UK viewers on Samsung TV Plus from 13 June.
To mark the launch of Staccs TV Throwback, the startup has released a promotional advert inspired by Ridley Scott’s 1984 Apple Super Bowl advert.
Staccs TV Throwback is a new music channel dedicated to tunes throughout the decades.
It looks back on the biggest anthems from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.
Launching on the same day, Staccs TV Celebrate will feature music videos all about festivity.
Whether that’s Christmas jingles or music highlighting Pride, Staccs TV Celebrate aims to provide music for all occasions.
“We are delighted to introduce these two new FAST channels to the UK music scene,” Robert Kviby, CEO of Staccs, said in a statement.
“Our mission is to bring back real music television and with these themed channels, fans will be able to enjoy music in a very special way.
“Staccs TV Throwback and Staccs TV Celebrate will offer a unique blend of nostalgia and celebration, as well as showcasing how Staccs is genuinely building the best music TV platform around.”
TUNE IT OUT
The addition of two new music channels on Samsung TV Plus comes as Channel 4 plans to close five of its own music channels.
The Box music channels, which Channel 4 owns, will cease at the end of June.
Channel 4 has axed a string of shows this year, including gruelling survival series Alone and Scared of the Dark hosted by Danny Dyer after just one series.
