Bafana Bafana are in high spirits after getting their 2026 FIFA World Cup Group C qualifying campaign to a good start when they defeated Benin 2-1 on Saturday, 18 November, at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Despite their win, Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Zizi Kodwa, is not at all impressed with the players’ attitude.

Hours before the match, the minister took to X to tell South Africans to fill up the stadium in support of the team. In response, the Bafana admin wrote: “Thank you Minister. We hope to see you at our games soon.”
However, Kodwa had a bone to pick with the players, as he called them out on social media for giving fans the cold shoulder.
“People say you didn’t greet them and you were cold towards them.”

COLD SHOULDER?
Kodwa’s lashing comes after the Bafana players were slammed on social media for not greeting fans when they arrived in Durban on Friday.
In a clip shared on the Bafana X account, the team can be seen arriving to a warm welcome by hotel staff in Durban. The supporters, who give the players a guard of honour, are seen singing and waving at the team upon arrival.
