Campolindo 8, Albany 7: Campolindo staved off an Albany comeback to get its fifth win in six games.
The Cougars looked like they had control of the game in the sixth inning after scoring five straight runs to take an 8-3 lead. But Albany came back in the bottom of the inning and answered with four runs of its own to cut the deficit to one.
With the game on the line and Albany needing a run to send the game into extra innings, the pressure was on Campolindo senior pitcher Joey Cecchin to close out the game. After walking the leadoff hitter, Cecchin struck out three straight batters to seal the win for the Cougars.
Junior Miles Clayton batted 2 for 3 with two RBI while sophomore Luke McLeod had two hits, two RBI and a double for Campolindo (5-2).
Joaquin Stuart, Sam Beynon, Evan Carrubba-Rice each recorded a home run for Albany, which dropped to 7-3.
Monte Vista 7, No. 5 Clayton Valley 2: Giovanni DeMarinis had a dominant performance on the mound, allowing just two hits and two runs while striking out three batters in six innings as the Mustangs beat Clayton Valley at home Monday.
Clayton Valley came within one run of Monte Vista in the fifth inning, but the Mustangs’ offense exploded in the sixth to the tune of four runs and took a commanding five-run lead.
Dylan Hillman had two hits and drove in two RBI for Monte Vista.
Henry Phifer had one of Clayton Valley’s two hits on the day and drove in a run.
Monte Vista improved to 3-4. Clayton Valley has now dropped back-to-back games and is 4-2.
Softball
No. 2 Archbishop Mitty 3, Notre Dame-Salinas 1: After trailing for most of the game, Mitty found a way to come away with the win late to extend its winning streak to five.
The Spirits scored their only run in the fourth inning when Kiersten Jara hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring Shailene Riemedio home after tagging up from third.
Mitty broke through in the sixth inning after Keira Brady’s go-ahead RBI double brought home Mia Rodriguez to put the Monarchs up 2-1. Megan Sutton doubled on the very next at-bat and drove in Brady to give Mitty a two-run cushion.
Monarchs pitcher Kyleigh Mace pitched all seven innings, striking out eight batters and allowing three hits to earn her first win of the season. Jara struck out 13 batters in 5 1-3 innings for Notre Dame.
Mitty improved to 6-1 and will play top-ranked Capuchino on Saturday.
No. 7 San Ramon Valley 8, Bishop O’Dowd 1: The Wolves put on a defensive clinic, holding Bishop O’Dowd to just a single run on the road.
SRV scored five runs in the seventh inning to put the game away late.
Freshman pitcher Lila Mcleod struck out eight batters and walked two batters in six innings. Sophomore Kayden West batted 2 for 4 with two RBI.
SRV is now 5-2 and will continue its road trip when it plays Liberty on Tuesday. Bishop O’Dowd dropped to 6-4.
Santa Teresa 3, Los Gatos 2: It was a tough defensive matchup, but in the end the Saints came out on top.
Senior Kierstin Wick pitched 4 2-3 innings for Santa Teresa and allowed just two runs and four hits. Junior Lilyanna Silva came in relief for Wick and allowed two hits in nine at-bats.
Cupertino 7, Menlo-Atherton 6: The Pioneers staved off a late-game Menlo-Atherton rally and escaped with a gusty home win.
Cupertino led for most of the game, scoring at least one run for the first five innings. Menlo-Atherton made its run in the sixth inning when it scored four straight runs, but the Pioneers closed out the top of the seventh and came away with the win.
Junior Purani Muthuvedi had a hit, an RBI and reached base on balls three times for Cupertino.
Menlo-Atherton shortstop DonnaBella Gaetano recorded a hit, drove in two runners and hit a double.
Hercules 25, Campolindo 2: Hercules put a whopping 25 runs in five innings in Monday’s win over Campolindo.
Bella Placencia batted 3 for 4 with four RBI and two doubles. Freshman Saraya De Alba had three hits and three runs.
Hercules is averaging 22 runs in its last three games and is 3-3-1 on the season. Campolindo is still searching for its first win after five games.
