Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfield general Teko Modise looks at how the reigning league champions maintain their PSL dominance.
Sundowns have won the league six seasons in a row and Modise says coach Rulani Mokwena is benefitting from coachable players.

Offering his insights, Modise says Sundowns philosophy to keep the ball and build from the back is beneficial in their PSL dominance.
The retired midfielder, Modise says this as Sundowns remain unbeaten out of 11 DStv Premiership matches under Mokwena’s guidance.

The man nicknamed The General also reserves praise for the players who are capable of adjusting to Sundowns’ philosophy.

“It helps coach Rulani [Mokwena] because you have coachable players. If you don’t have the quality, that’s when Mamelodi Sundowns will punish you because you trying to copy them,” Modise told Sundowns’ PitchsidePodcast.
“You have players that are flexible and versatile to play in different positions to adjust. That’s where the world of football is going. You can’t just be a player that has played one position your entire career.

“I think you need to elevate your game, we have players in the team, and look at the acquisition that hasn’t kicked off.
“We still have [Thapelo] Maseko, we still have [Lesiba] Nku that haven’t kicked off. When they kick off we’re going to see a different way of Sundowns play out and out wingers with speed, a different style of Sundowns.”

While the newly crowned African Football League champions are mastering their style, Modise says the players are bound to make mistakes.
“Just because you have perfected it, you still going to make mistakes. We still see mistakes from Ronwen [Williams] trying to build from the back. But 80 per cent of the time it’s good,” adds Modise.
Meanwhile, Sundowns remain at the top of the log table with 33 points from 11 matches and will travel to Puyramids in the CAF Champions League next Tuesday.
