The fashion world is in shock after the flagship house of the Italian Aeffe group announced the untimely death of designer Davide Renne, aged 46. The designer had just taken on his role as Moschino’s new creative director. Appointed in October, he was due to unveil his first collection for the brand at Milan Fashion Week in February.
The designer died on Friday November 10 in a hospital in Milan. Moschino announced the news in a statement, saying that “Davide assumed the role of creative director only a few days ago, on November 1, 2023”. “There are no words to describe the immeasurable pain we are experiencing at this dramatic time. Davide joined us just a few days ago, when a sudden illness ended his young life too soon. We still can’t believe it,” says Massimo Ferretti, Aeffe’s executive chairman.
Born in Follonica, Tuscany, Davide Renne graduated from the Polimoda school in Florence. He began his career at Alessandro Dell’Acqua, before moving on to the luxury fashion house Gucci, where he worked for twenty years. There, he headed up the women’s collections as design director for women’s ready-to-wear. He recently left Kering to begin this new chapter in his life, this time on the front line, at Moschino.
“With Davide, we were working on an ambitious project, in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and optimism for the future. Even though he was only with us for a very short time, Davide was able to immediately make himself loved and respected. Today we are left with the responsibility of carrying on what his imagination and creativity had only envisioned,” Massimo Ferretti continues in the press release, hinting that Moschino may pay tribute to him at the next Fashion Week.
