As per the Spanish press agency EFE, Ángeles Béjar, the mother of Luis Rubiales, the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, locked herself up Monday morning in the Divina Pastora de Motril church as she has declared a hunger strike until a solution is found to the “inhumane and bloody hunt people are doing to my son. It is something that he does not deserve.”
Béjar has declared that she will stay in the church located in the Capuchinos neighborhood in Motril until justice is done with her son, or else, the hunger strike will be carried out “indefinitely, day and night”. Her sister is with her.
Luis Rubiales has been suspended from all football-related activities by the world football governing body FIFA for 90 days after his controversial and inappropriate actions of planting an unsolicited kiss on Jenni Hermoso’s lips and grabbing his crotch in celebration shortly after the final whistle during the final of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Sunday, August 20.
His behavior throughout the ceremony has been questioned as he has been seen tightly hugging the players, planting kisses on their cheeks and excessively touching them.
Luis Rubiales’ mother has asked the Spanish forward Hermoso to “say the truth” and “maintain the version she said at the beginning of the events.”
Ángeles Béjar considers that “there is no sexual abuse because there was consent on both sides. The images show it.” She continues showing disbelief “why are they being so cruel to him? What’s their purpose behind this story?” as she believes that her son “is incapable of harming anyone.”
In other news, Onda Cero reported that Andreu Camps, the secretary general of the Spanish federation, asked UEFA
EFA
Luis Rubiales’s close coworker, Camps has asked UEFA to defend the president of the Spanish federation and the vice president of the highest body of European football. He considers the actions undertaken by the Government of Spain as unjustified.
If UEFA acts on this, the Spanish clubs will get excluded from all European competitions.
It is worth mentioning that, so far, UEFA has remained silent. UEFA has not yet dared to intervene in response to Andreu Camps’ complaint to save Rubiales.
Two new mind-blowing events in this never-ending scandal took away the spotlights off of La Roja’s historical achievement.
