The controversy began when MPSC announced its State Services Prelims Exam on the same day as the IBPS Clerk Exam, on August 25.As a result, many students were left in a dilemma, unable to sit for both exams.
The issue sparked protests, which started in Pune on Tuesday night and quickly gained momentum as political leaders lent their support. Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, intervened by urging the MPSC Chairman to consider the students’ concerns.
Under mounting pressure, the Maharashtra Public Service Commission held a meeting on Thursday and decided to postpone the State Services Exam. A new date for the exam will be announced in due course.
The primary concern for the students was the risk of missing one of the exams due to the conflicting schedules. The IBPS exam date had been fixed for several months, while MPSC had repeatedly altered the State Services Exam date, adding to the confusion and frustration among candidates.
Adding to the demands, protesters also called for the selection process for 258 posts in the agricultural department to be conducted through the MPSC exam. NCP (SP) Chief Sharad Pawar expressed his support for the agitating students and warned that he would join the protest if the government failed to clarify its stance on the issue.
