Nagaland NBSE Board Cancels Mid-Term Exam: Nagaland NBSE Board Cancels Mid-term Exam for Classes 8 and 9 from 2024 |

The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) Kohima has announced that all NBSE registered and affiliated schools will no longer conduct mid-term examinations for classes 8 and 9 beginning with the 2024 academic year.
In a notice released on the official website of the board at nbsenl.edu.in, ‘notification no. 9/2024’ stated that, “The following is hereby notified to all the Registered schools under Nagaland Board of School Education for information and strict compliance that there will be no mid-term examinations for Classes-VIII and IX from academic session 2024 onwards.And in lieu of that, Phase-I and Phase-II Examinations shall be conducted on the dates specified in the academic calendar 2024. This is done to gain more teaching days and in order to shift towards semester structured pattern of secondary education as envisioned in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.”
The notice further instructed schools to record students’ marks in the PCR (Pupil Cumulative Record) using a specific format. The marks obtained in Phase-I should be entered in the First Evaluation Column, while Phase-II marks should be entered in the Second Evaluation Column. The combined or consolidated marks of both Phase-I and Phase-II assessments are then to be entered in the Third Evaluation Column.
The notice reads, “…all institutions are to enter the marks in the PCR (Pupil Cumulative Record) as follows: Phase-I marks in the First Evaluation Column; Phase-II marks in the Second Evaluation Column and the consolidated marks of the Phase-I & II shall be entered in the Third Evaluation column.
A student to be eligible for promotion to the next higher class should secure the minimum qualifying marks/grades in aggregate (i.e., Phase-I & II).”
