The Ministry of Education has announced the ninth edition of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 today, August 12. In the Management category, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad has secured the top position. The second and third spots were claimed by IIM Bangalore and IIM Kozhikode, respectively.
This year, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi ranked fourth, while IIM Calcutta took the fifth position.
These institutions were evaluated based on five parameters set by the Ministry of Education: Teaching, Learning and Resources, Research and Professional Practices, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity, and Perception.

Comparison
While the top three rank holders remained unchanged from last year, there was a shift in the fourth and fifth positions. In 2023, Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta held the fourth spot, with Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi at fifth. However, in 2024, IIT Delhi moved up to Rank 4, pushing IIM Calcutta down to Rank 5.
A similar reversal occurred between Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow and the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai. Last year, IIM Lucknow was ranked sixth, followed by NITIE at seventh. This year, NITIE has climbed to Rank 6, while IIM Lucknow has dropped to Rank 7.
Meanwhile, Indian Institute of Management, Indore, XLRI-Xavier School of Management, and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay have consistently secured the 8th, 9th, and 10th ranks in both 2023 and 2024.
Other details
The NIRF ranking was issued online in the presence of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and other dignitaries. This year, the total number of categories for ranking has increased from 13 to 16. New categories, such as Open Universities, State Universities, and Skill Universities, have been introduced for the 2024 rankings.
