No contract talks for Celtic international star in final 10 months of his deal but ‘these things work themselves out’

GREG TAYLOR admits there has still been no progress on a new deal at Celtic.

The left-back is in the final year of his contract, and would be free to speak to clubs in January.

Asked if there had been any talks about an extension, Taylor, 26, said: “No, there’s nothing. We’ll see what happens now.

“Are discussions ongoing? Is that the phrase? I honestly don’t know. I’ve got ten months left.”

Taylor was a £2million arrival from Kilmarnock when he joined in 2019.

A natural left-back, he was brought in to replace Arsenal-bound Kieran Tierney.

He has lifted nine trophies in his time at Parkhead, and was an unused Scotland squad player at the Euros.

Boss Brendan Rodgers appears to be focusing on adding to his squad ahead of their league season opener with Killie on August 4, and the summer transfer window which closes at the end of next month.

Asked if he is comfortable with his situation, Taylor added: “It’s football, it’s business. You understand that’s part of it. So I’m sure these things will work themselves out.

“It’s not at the forefront I wouldn’t say, no. But of course, you’ve got ten months left and you know the situation you’re in.”

Neil Lennon was the Celtic boss who signed Taylor, and he has kept his place under both Ange Postecoglou and Rodgers since then.

He is part of the Hoops squad on their USA tour, and started their weather-delayed friendly against Manchester City in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Taylor said: “I’ve loved my time at Celtic. It’s been an amazing period of my career in terms of winning trophies and playing a lot of games.

“I’ve worked under unbelievable managers, the current one included.

“So I’m really grateful for what the experience has been like.

“It’s one I’ll never take for granted.

“I’m 26. I’m at an age where I want to be playing regular football, I want to be playing every week, and I want to be competing for trophies.”
