No Timetable To Return For Dallas Mavericks’ Kyrie Irving After Injury

Kyrie Irving is out indefinitely. The Dallas Mavericks announced Saturday that an MRI revealed the All-Star guard sustained a right heel contusion during Friday night’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Irving returned to Dallas — the Mavericks play the Memphis Grizzlies in Memphis on Monday — where he will begin treatment. The team says there is no timetable for his return at this time.

On Saturday evening, Irving posted on X, formerly Twitter, reassuring fans and family members that he is doing well. “I am feeling better than I was yesterday and for now, that’s all I can ask for. I’ll be fine,” he wrote.

The injury occurred with just under four minutes to play in the second quarter. Portland center Duop Reath fouled Irving as he drove to the basket, knocking him to the floor. At the same time, Dallas center Dwight Powell, who was making a play toward the ball, fell on Irving, landing on the guard’s right ankle.

Irving connected on two free throws after Powell fell on him before walking back to the locker room with a noticeable limp. He did not return to the game.

“[It’s] just a right foot injury. That’s all I can tell you,” Kidd said during his postgame press conference. “We’ll know more tomorrow.”

Aside from the MRI results, ESPN reports Irving is dealing with significant pain. However, the team is relieved that he avoided a major injury.
