Nokia 7 Plus vs Nokia 8 Sirocco: Price, Specifications, Features Compared

Mobile World Congress 2018 saw the launch of several new smartphones from HMD Global’s Nokia brand of smartphones. Among these were the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco that offer an upgraded experience over last year’s Nokia 7 and Nokia 8 respectively. Part of Google’s Android One initiative, both smartphones are powered by stock Android with no customisations. Here is a quick overview of differences between Nokia’s latest premium smartphones – Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco.

Nokia 7 Plus price has been set at EUR 399 (roughly Rs. 32,000), which is being called the global average price, excluding taxes and subsidies. Talking about the availability, the phone will be sold from early April in Black/ Copper and White/ Copper colour variants. On the other hand, the Nokia 8 Sirocco price has been set at EUR 749 (roughly Rs. 60,000), which is a global average price excluding taxes and subsidies. The Nokia 8 Sirocco will be sold in a Black colour variant with the same timelines as the Nokia 7 Plus. Additionally, HMD Global is hosting an India launch event on April 4 that is expected to see the announcement of Nokia 6 (2018); the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco could also be showcased at the event.

The Nokia 7 Plus runs Android Oreo out-of-the-box and sports a 6-inch full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) IPS display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, paired with 4GB of LPDD4 RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. Storage is expandable via microSD card (up to 256GB).

In the camera department, the handset bears a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 12-megapixel primary wide-angle sensor and a 13-megapixel secondary sensor, with f/1.75 and f/2.4 aperture respectively. The Nokia 7 Plus rear camera has features like 2x optical zoom, dual-tone LED flash, and Zeiss optics. The front camera, on the other hand, has a 16-megapixel fixed-focus sensor with f/2.0 aperture and Zeiss optics.

Connectivity options on the phone include 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS/ A-GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, USB Type-C, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Sensors on the Nokia 7 Plus include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, compass, gyroscope, proximity sensor, and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

 

The Nokia 8 Sirocco runs Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box. It sports a 5.5-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) pOLED display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The handset bears a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, coupled with 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB inbuilt storage. Storage is not expandable via microSD card.

In terms of optics, the smartphone has a 12-megapixel wide-angle primary sensor – with f/1.75 aperture – and a 13-megapixel secondary sensor with f/2.6 aperture, 2x optical zoom, and dual-tone LED flash. The Nokia 8 Sirocco front camera has a 5-megapixel fixed-focus sensor with f/2.0 aperture and 1.4-micron pixels sensor size.

In terms of connectivity, the Nokia 8 Sirocco offers 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC, and GPS/ A-GPS. Sensors on the handset include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, compass, fingerprint sensor, gyroscope, and proximity sensor.
