Oakland Tech 67, Oakland 61

Oakland Tech went to Oakland and handed the Wildcats a loss in the teams’ first matchup since the NorCal Division III title game barnburner at Laney in March, which was an Oakland victory.

ArDarius Grayson, which played second-fiddle to Ahmaree Muhammad in the Tech backcourt last season, was the star of the show when he scored a game-high 22 points, 13 coming in the fourth quarter. 

Asher Kramer scored 13 points and had eight rebounds, and Xan Myles-Plettner scored 13 points as Tech improved to 17-5 and 5-0 in the Oakland Section. 

Meanwhile, Oakland (15-6, 4-1) got 14 points and five assists from guard Jonathan Chapple. Isaac Johnson scored 10 points, and forward Anthony Lacy put up 10 points and grabbed eight boards. 

Branham 64, Leigh 60

It took overtime to decide the winner of Branham and Leigh in a BVAL Mt. Hamilton Division game, as both teams got monster performances from their leading scorers.

Dasan Poston scored 33 for Branham (17-1, 7-0) and Caleb Asante poured in 31 for Leigh (9-6, 3-3). 

Wyatt Sparling scored 13 for Branham, and Ben Lim and Cayden Tanger combined to score the team’s other 18 points. Jacob Applebaum put in 12 points for Leigh, and Cooper Smith scored 10. 

While Leigh was held scoreless in overtime, Sparling’s triple and Poston’s free throw was enough to get Branham the hard-fought win. 

Moreau Catholic 92, James Logan 55

Kareem Jackson Jr. put up a team-high 18 points as Moreau Catholic (13-7, 8-0) thrashed James Logan (5-15, 3-5) in MVAL Valley play. 

Kevin Chapman scored 11 points for the Mariners, and Cole Loud and Andrew Placido each scored 10 apiece. 

Girls basketball

Acalanes 56, Miramonte 40

Junior guard Dulci Vail scored a game-high 23 points to lead Acalanes (18-4, 8-0) past Miramonte (13-9, 7-1) on the scoreboard and in the Diablo Athletic League standings. 

Natalie Frechman and KK Lacanlale each added nine for Acalanes, which now has a game up on both Mirmaonte and Mt. Diablo. Karena Eberts led Miramonte with 17 points. 

Oakland Tech 63, Oakland 27

In the program’s first game since having to forfeit six victories due to playing an ineligible player, Oakland Tech (5-16, 4-0) routed host Oakland (13-6, 3-1). 

Jhai Johnson led Oakland with 19 points, and Taliyah Logwood scored 13. Jordan Taylor spaced the floor and scored 14 points while making four 3-pointers. Daijha Teague led Oakland with 13 points.

Monta Vista 64, Los Altos 31

Monta Vista improved to 14-3 after another league win, this time against Los Altos (8-10, 3-4). Monta Vista, which got 15 points from Carolyn Ruan, is now 6-1 against SCVAL De Anza competition.

Clara Fan put in 12 points, and Allie Rummelhoff joined her in double-figures with 10. Vivian Ong hit two 3-pointers and scored nine points. Ella McFarlane scored 10 points and Natalie Holm had nine for Los Altos.
