Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer are set to co-star in an action-adventure series for Amazon’s Prime Video. The series, which is based on an original idea by Tessa Coates (“Feel Good,” “Ladhood”), will be produced by Skydance Television, Andy and Barbara Muschietti’s Double Dream, and Spencer’s Orit Entertainment. The project was subject to a major bidding war and was eventually acquired by Amazon.
In the show, Waddingham plays Judith, a covertly trained assassin. Her best friend, Debbie (played by Spencer), is unaware of Judith’s secret life until a hit goes awry and they find themselves on the run, trying to evade a mysterious enemy while repairing their fractured friendship.
Spencer expressed her excitement to work on the series, while added Waddingham is also thrilled to be part of the project. Coates, Spencer, Brian Clisham, Stephanie Kluft, Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, Irene Yeung, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Matt Thunell, Mark Mikutowicz, and Blair Bigelow are also part of the executive production team behind the series.
Skydance TV President Matt Thunell also expressed his excitement for the series, highlighting the joyful process of its development. Skydance has a long-standing relationship with Prime Video, with other projects like “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” “Reacher,” and the upcoming “Cross.”
Waddingham and Spencer were previously part of Apple TV+’s lineup, with Waddingham starring in “Ted Lasso” and Spencer in “Truth Be Told.” On the other hand, Spencer’s Orit Entertainment has had multiple successful projects. Coates, the creator, is known for hosting the podcast “Nobody Panic” and recently wrapped up touring her solo show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Waddingham and Spencer are represented by various talent agencies, and Coates is represented by WME.
