The Government of Odisha has declared a state-wide public holiday on January 17 (Wednesday) i.e tomorrow, owing to the Shree Jagannath Parikrama porject in Puri.
As per PTI reports, th Odisha Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in a statment announced that all government schools, colleges and offices in the state will remained closed.
According to the reports, the Shree Jagannath Parikrama project includes amenities for pilgrims visiting the Jagannath temple in Puri, including parking areas, a bridge called Shree Setu, pilgrimage centres, a recently built road to facilitate pilgrim mobility, restrooms, cloakrooms, and other facilities.
The statement also said that Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced this to facilitate people’s participation in the inauguration of the Jagannath Temple Heritage Corridor project.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration has sent invitations to representatives of 90 religious shrines and institutions across the country to attend the function on January 17.
According to the official website of the Shree Jagannatha Temple Administration, the Shreemandira Parikrama is a planned 75-meter corridor encircling the Shree Jagannatha Temple in Puri. The project aims to create open and clear pathways around the Meghanada Pacheri, allowing devotees and pilgrims to visually connect with the Temple, Neelchakra, and Meghanada Pacheri. Additionally, the Shreemandira Parikrama will serve to offer facilities for pilgrims and enhance the safety and security measures for both the temple and devotees.
In the North side of the Corridor, there is a plan to construct an ATM kiosk covering an area of 26.7 sqm. This kiosk aims to ensure that devotees have access to their bank accounts in times of need. Additionally, on the western side of the plaza, a centrally controlled state-of-the-art electrical room is in the works. This room will employ advanced technology for efficient and smart management of electricity in and around the temple complex. Encompassing an area of 130 sqm, the electrical room will house all necessary equipment and power backup facilities required for the temple complex and the plaza area. Furthermore, a First Aid Centre is proposed to be established, covering an area of 26.7 sqm. This centre will serve as a preliminary emergency medical facility catering to the health needs of temple workers, sevayats, and visitors.
