The Odisha government has introduced the Nutana Unnata Abhilasha (NUA) Odisha scholarship scheme for students pursuing Under-graduate and Post-graduate courses in the state.
Within the initiative, male students will receive Rs 9,000 per year, while female students will receive Rs 10,000. Male students from SC/ST and Nirman Shramik (construction worker) families will receive Rs 10,000, while female students in the same categories will receive Rs 11,000 per year.
Media reports quote chairperson of Nabin Odisha Scheme VK Pandian speaking to students at the Nu-O festival in Jajpur earlier this week, saying that decision regarding the NUA-O was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
He added that the goal of the Nutana Unnata Abhilasha (NUA) Odisha scheme is to provide youth with opportunities for ongoing skill development, reskilling, and upskilling. The scheme, which has a budget of Rs 385 crore for the fiscal years 2023–24 to 2025–26, will cover all 30 districts, giving tribal and remote areas priority.
Reports further stated that Pandian announced that the scholarship will be available to students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at state universities, government and non-government aided colleges, including Sanskrit colleges run by the Higher Education Department. However, he clarified that students whose parents pay income taxes or hold permanent government positions would be ineligible for the scholarship.
