Odisha to hold third phase of UG, PG admission as over 91,000 seats remain vacant

BHUBANESWAR: The higher education department has announced the timeline and schedule of phase-III admission into undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses in degree colleges and state public universities. More than 91,000 seats are lying vacant after phase-II admission of the UG and PG is over in the state.
The state has a total of 2.71 lakh UG seats in 1047 institutions this year. After phase-II admission was over, 83,719 UG seats remained vacant. Similarly, 110 institutions in Odisha offer 27,816 PG seats. But 20,078 students have been admitted in phase-I and phase-II admission leaving 7,738 seats lying vacant this year.
Before the academic session began, the department’s performance tracking cell (PTC) had decided to hold the admission for UG and PG courses in six rounds instead of different phases of admission. Later the department slashed the last two rounds from the phase-I admission and completed the process with a phase-II admission with two rounds.
However, the department came up with phase-III admission for UG and PG courses. Official sources said it decided to hold the third phase keeping the request of students and colleges in mind. Largescale vacancy in the institutions might be a reason behind the starting of phase-III admission process, said a college principal here.
Students, who could not participate in the phase-I and phase-II UG admission process, can take part in the phase-III admission process to be ended on November 30. Common application form (CAF) will be available online on the student academic management system (SAMS) website from November 4 to November 12.
First selection list of seats along with waitlisted applicants will be published on November 17 and students can report at their institutions for admission from November 18 to November 20. Waitlisted candidates can take admission on November 28 and 29.
Similarly, phase-III admission process for PG courses will be started on November 7 and continue till November 30. Last date for providing fresh options in the CAF is November 12. First selection list will be published on November 17 and first round admission will be conducted November 20 and 21. Waitlisted admission will be conducted on November 29.
