IN six months, he still hadn’t won over the Rangers fans.
But in half that time on loan elsewhere, he’s now ADORED by supporters at his new club.
Sam Lammers failed to convince in a Rangers jersey after his £3.5m move from Atalanta.
In 31 appearances across all competitions, the Dutch forward scored just two goals for the Ibrox side.
He’s already well past that tally with FC Utrecht, with seven goals in 14 games back in his homeland.
He made history for the club last night, becoming just the third player this century to score in five successive games for Utrecht with two goals in a 3-2 win over Heerenveen.

Lammers, 26, has been used as a more orthodox centre-forward during this loan spell, in contrast to how he was deployed at Ibrox.
Former boss Michael Beale played him either as a number ten or out wide on most occasions.
Philippe Clement rarely started him but when he did, he preferred Danilo or Cyriel Dessers as the main striker. Most of his appearances under the Belgian were as a sub.
Now Utrecht fans are desperate for him to be there number nine for the foreseeable future.
So much so that one of their biggest supporters’ clubs has started a social media campaign to convince the two teams to get a deal done.
The Supporters’ Association of FC Utrecht (SVFCU) has over 5,500 members and is one of the official affiliated supporters’ clubs linked to the Eredivisie side.
Dustin Broonius, who is part of the SVFCU editorial staff, wrote on Twitter (X): “Dear @RangersFC, we want Sam Lammers on a permanent deal. You guys don’t want him, we adore him. Make it happen!”
The post has gathered 48 retweets and 440 likes as of 6pm tonight, after it was shared last night.
While many Utrecht fans are in agreement, a few felt this tactic would only make it harder to sign Lammers.
One replied: “You think this helps???”
Another response said: “Never be too enthusiastic. Increases resale value.”
For Rangers fans, most seemed only too happy to give any potential deal their backing.
“Get the chequebook out then,” said one Gers fan.
Needless to say, there were plenty of supporters throwing out transfer fees they’d take for the forward, from £3m to £20m.
Of course, some of those price tags were in jest.
Another fan said: “So pleased he is doing well with you boys. He just didn’t fit with us in the position we wanted him to play. Our team wasn’t doing well at the time either. Now, let’s talk £££.”

In a similar vein this supporter said: “Have him! Obviously he does not fit in with Rangers style. He seems to fit yours. Enjoy him.”
A third said: “Actually pleased for him, he always worked hard for us, just wasn’t suited to the league.”
