Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates fans will have football withdrawal symptoms from May to August. What are their viewing options aside from Wimbledon, Euro 2024, the 2024 Paris Olympics and T20 World Cup?
DJOKOVIC WANTS ROLAND GARROS GLORY, WIMBLEDON HISTORY AND GOLD AT THE OLYMPICS
Novak Djokovic enters most tournaments as the favourite but he’s got several big names breathing down his neck. 2024 hasn’t been the Serbian’s greatest year but he’s worked his way into the R16 after a tough five-set win against talented Italian Lorenzo Musetti. Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Sasha Zverev are all lurking in the draw. The season’s second grand slam enters its second week on Sunday 02 June and concludes on the 9th.
STRAWBERRIES, CREAM & PIMMS AT WIMBLEDON
Strawberries and cream, white clothes and grass court tennis will be the order of the day in London from 01-14 July. Carlos Alcaraz will defend his crown after beating Novak Djokovic over five sets last year. Unseeded Czech player Marketa Vondrousova beat Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in last year’s women’s final. Jabeur will fly the African flag again in 2024 while 2022 champion Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan is always dangerous on this surface with her massive serve and ultra-aggressive baseline strategy.
WHEN IS THE T20 WORLD CUP?
02 June to 29 June. The Proteas won’t be favourites but you never know.
WHEN IS EURO 2024? ARE KAIZER CHIEFS FANS INTERESTED?
14 June to 14 July. Italy is the defending champions after beating England in the Euro 2020 final on penalties.
WHEN ARE THE 2024 PARIS OLYMPICS?
26 July to 11 August. It’s another opportunity to watch random sports like curling, handball and archery and then forget about them again for another four years. Can team South Africa claim a few gold medals in the pool or perhaps on the track? Akani Simbine has been mighty fast this year so far. The Olympics are always great fun.
