A teenager has been charged after killing an 82-year-old man in a horrific one-punch attack at a UK bus station.

Horrific footage shows Dennis Clarke being attacked at Derby bus station in 2021 after telling off a group of teenagers for causing trouble at the escalators.

One teenager is seen throwing a punch at Clarke, causing him to fall to the floor.

Clarke sadly later died in hospital due to injuries.

Omar Moumeche, who was 16 at the time of the attack, has been charged with manslaughter and sentenced to two years in youth detention.

“Clarke suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he tragically died nine days later, having never recovered from those injuries,” the Derbyshire Constabulary wrote in a Facebook post on Saturday.

“During the week-long trial it was heard how Mr Clarke had been surrounded by a group of three teenagers he had allegedly challenged after it was believed they had been messing around on an escalator in the Derbion centre (formerly the Intu centre).”

Moumeche, now 18, was found guilty of manslaughter in July and was sentenced to two years in youth detention at Derby Crown Court on Saturday.

Detective Inspector Mark Shaw, who led the investigation said the CCTV footage was used in the trial as well as many witness accounts.

“The defendant claimed he acted in self-defence, and the jury on the balance and high threshold required refused to accept his version of events,” he said.

“Dennis was a well-known and loved friend and family member. Dennis’ family were present throughout the hearings and have acted with absolute dignity both throughout the trial and including at the time the guilty verdict was returned and I thank them for that.”

“The tragic events of that day have had a devastating effect on both the families of Mr Clarke and of the defendant himself.”
