Optus outage in Melbourne’s Melton and surrounding areas due to ‘underground fibre break’

Another Optus issue affected residents in Melbourne’s west as a number of mobile towers were taken out by a cable break.

Residents in the Melton and surrounding area woke up to little or no mobile service on the Optus network on Monday morning.

Many complained they couldn’t make calls or send text messages.

On its service status page, Optus said a number of mobile towers in the Melton area are not working and service might be interrupted.

The network service was restored before 10am on Monday.

Optus told 7NEWS.com.au the issue was caused by a fibre break and technicians are currently onsite to repair it.

“Due to an underground fibre break, Optus customers in and around Melton, Victoria may be experiencing service issues to their mobile, voice and data services,” a spokesperson said.

“We apologise to customers for the inconvenience.”

It comes less than two weeks after a 12-hour Optus outage left millions of people across the nation without phone connection and internet services.

That outage was caused by a software upgrade.
