Orlando Pirates finished their season with two domestic trophies under coach Jose Riveiro after their Nedbank Cup triumph on Saturday.
That victory over Mamelodi Sundowns meant that Pirates defended their Nedbank Cup title from last season when they beat Sekhukhune.
Riveiro stocks rising
Overall, the picture looks great for Pirates and Riveiro, as they retained all of the trophies they won last season. Earlier in the season they also beat Sundowns in the final of the MTN8 final after a penalty shoot-out. In total the Buccaneers have four trophies in two seasons under the Spanish tactician. That has further increased his reputation. His reputation saw him linked with a possible exit from the club and a return to Europe.

Those prospects may yet increase now, after his latest success, which could have Pirates fans worried. But now, according to Soccer-Laduma, they can rest assured, with Riveiro touted to stay put.
Set to stay at Pirates?
“The coach has done well, and the management is pleased with the progress he has made. Those (reports on overseas interest) were just rumours. The parties have been happy with the working relationship and there isn’t any talk of potential changes at the moment. Yes, the league is an important trophy to go for but there is no reason to press the panic button. In fact, you can expect the club and the coach to engage over long-term plans,”
Additionally, Riveiro has finished second in the DStv Premiership for the second time in a row. This means they will again, get the opportunity to play CAF Champions League football next season. Last time around this was their achilles heel, as they failed to qualify for the group stages of the tournament.
After suffering defeat at the hands of Jwanang Galaxy this season, Riveiro will now be focusing on fixing that. He would’ve had his first taste of continental football and will have a better idea of what to expect going forward. This prospect alone should excite Pirates fans.
