Despite his ongoing health concerns it sounds like Ozzy Osbourne isn’t planning on slowing down anytime soon, at least not for another few years. In a recent interview with Metal Hammer, ‘the prince of Darkness’ discussed his ambitions to record another solo album and hopefully return to the road again in 2024. From the outside looking in, this news might come as a surprise to fans. Osbourne’s recent health issues have forced him to halt touring and all live performances indefinitely, which consequently forced the cancellation of his long awaited No More Tours 2, as well as his headline slot on the upcoming Power Trip festival.
However, it looks like Osbourne has undergone his “final surgery” this month as he stated, “I’ve had all the surgery now, thank god. I’m feeling okay – it was just dragging on. I thought I’d be back on my feet months ago, I just couldn’t get used to this mode of living, constantly having something wrong. I can’t walk properly yet, but I’m not in any pain any more and the surgery on my spine went great.”
It’s great news to hear that Osbourne is taking the necessary time to recover and focus on his health. Coupled with the fact he stated, “I’m getting myself fit,” it’s clear Osbourne has a bigger picture in mind than to simply retire. “I’ve done two albums fairly recently [2020’s Ordinary Man and 2022’s Patient Number 9, both produced by Andrew Watt], but I want to do one more album and then go back on the road.”
Completing a trifecta of solo albums with producer Andrew Watt would be a remarkable achievement for Ozzy, and given all he’s gone through in the last few years with his health concerns it’d only embolden this as a triumph.
“I’m just starting to work on it now, and we’ll be recording in the early part of next year,” Osbourne stated. “I want to take my time with this one.”
Certainly there’s no rush for new Ozzy Osbourne music. Considering the grammy nods and critical praise 2022’s Patient Number 9 reeled in, Ozzy fans have had a lot to chew on this decade especially compared to the 2010’s, which saw the release of only one solo record from the singer. And regardless of if and when Osbourne returns to the stage, it’s a great to hear Osbourne speak publicly on his health in such a positive and optimistic sense.
