At Allure, we really care about what we put on our skin — so it only makes sense that we are just as meticulous when choosing products for our pets. (They are our fur babies, after all.) We added the “Best Shampoo/Conditioner for Dogs” category to our Best of Beauty Awards because of how we pause at the pet store and diligently scan the ingredient lists of products we want to get for them. Our dogs’ skin and hair deserve to be as nurtured as ours.
Around the time we started testing products for this category, my husband and I added a new puppy to our family, making us a two-dog household. His name is Ollie and he’s a Shiba Inu puppy who was surrendered to a shelter and nervous about everything — including baths.
When looking at the Paw Silky Smooth Pet Conditioner on my list of dog products to test, I paused. The conditioning treatment — which can be rinsed out during a bath or used as a leave-in — was something I didn’t think I needed for Ollie, especially because he whimpers when anything moist touches his skin. “He could never sit still long enough in a bath to let me condition him,” I thought, but if there was a time to add anything to his routine, it was now when he was still small and easier to manage in a tub.
My strategy the first time I bathed him with it was to move fast. I slathered him with shampoo when he was dry, quickly lathered it up with ReFa Fine Bubble S shower head on the fine mist setting, and rinsed. Then, I shut off the water and began massaging the Paw conditioner all over his body.
