Perth man sedated and on ventilator in Bali hospital after contracting pneumonia

A Perth fly-in, fly-out worker is fighting for life in a Bali hospital after contracting pneumonia.

Perth-born man Gareth Lawrance was in Bali when he contracted pneumonia, which has led to reduced liver, lung, and kidney function.

His family are desperately trying to get him home as he is showing no signs of improvement while in the intensive care unit on a ventilator and sedated.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help get Mr Lawrance home and to assist with mounting hospital bills, which have hit close to $50,000.

Mr Lawrance’s sister Hope said she was working on getting him flown out early this week.

“He is still on the ventilator and sedated with no improvement in his lung function so the sooner we can get him back here the better,” she said.

“Your incredible generosity is helping not only to get him back on a mediflight but to also help with mounting medical bills in Bali.”

Mr Lawrance’s work friend Nicholas Hinchcliffe said Gareth — known as Gazza to his friends — was one of the nicest people you would ever meet.

“Gazza is the nicest bloke you have ever met and is always the first person to help anyone and now Gaz is in desperate need of our help,” he said.
