Perth parents warn other families after 8-year-old son bitten by deadly snake in front yard

The parents of an 8-year-old, boy who almost died after he was bitten by a snake in the backyard, have warned other families of the dangerous situation after they couldn’t get in contact with Triple 0.

The stressful ordeal unfolded just outside the front door of their home in the Perth Hills.

Camden had been playing in the front yard when a snake — believed to be a highly venomous dugite — popped out from piping and bit him.

“It felt like stepping on a twig but like different,” he said.

His mother Claire told 7NEWS of the terrifying moment she rushed over to her son after he started screaming, to find “very-clear” puncture marks between his toes.

Claire — who is a nurse — carried him inside, so he wouldn’t need to move, and began bandaging him.

However, the situation intensified after the 8-year-old parents couldn’t reach Triple 0 due to no reception in the area.

“He was vomiting. He looked terrible. He did not look well at all,” Camden’s father Jeremy said.

“He said I can’t see, I can’t see, I realise that was him passing out.”

After several minutes of desperately trying to get help, Claire eventually got through to emergency services over a wifi call.

Camden was given anti-venom in the hospital, however, he was then placed into the intensive care unit as doctors were concerned his blood could clot.

“Just grateful to get through that first night when his bloods were really bad, to know in the morning he was making a recovery was just the best,” Claire said.

The Perth family hope that telling their story will remind other parents and children to remember the first aid protocols for snake bites — call Triple 0, keep the patient still, lie them down and apply a bandage.
