Perth traffic: Travellers urged to stay alert ahead of the Easter long weekend with traffic heavy

Thousands of travellers have hit the roads out of Perth ahead of the Easter long weekend, causing early traffic chaos.

By 2pm cars were backed up along the Kwinana Freeway from Armadale Road to Russell Road with Main Roads WA reminding those who are travelling away for the weekend to stay alert and drive safely.

The warning comes after a tragic start to the long weekend where two people lost their lives in a horror collision in Lower Chittering early this morning.

Premier Roger Cook said the crash was a reminder for other drivers hitting the road for the long weekend.

The breakdowns occurred on the Mitchell Freeway southbound at Vincent Street and on Roe Highway’s exit to Orrong Road with traffic slowed in the area.

Perth residents going away this weekend should expect extra congestion along the major freeways and are urged to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time on the road.

Double demerits are also in place until midnight on Monday April 1.
