We have an abundance of good bakeries in WA, but here are some hidden gems you might not have heard of.
Teeter Bakery
East Perth
This hole-in-the-wall bakery in East Perth by Natasha Brownfield has a dedicated following for its incredible cakes and pastries. Brownfield spent more than a decade working as a pastry chef in cafes, bakeries and restaurants before branching out on her own with Teeter at the start of this year.
You can order whole cakes for pick up Wednesday to Saturday and the bakery door is open to the public from 7.30am Thursday and Friday and from 8am Saturday until sold out, so get in early.
Bred Co
Albany
They call themselves a micro bakery, but happily, that label does not reflect the size of the goods. Bred Co boast that the journey their grain makes to end up in your sandwich may just be the shortest in Australia, with flour sourced from the Great Southern. That’s not to say they won’t try something different — we also love their flour-free triticale schrot brot. With a range of pastries, rolls and even sausage rolls on offer, this is worth the drive down Albany Highway alone.
Pelican Croissanterie

Locals might scoff at this bakery being called a hidden gem, or maybe they will just hiss that we’re giving away their secret-ish spot to the rest of Perth. Sorry, residents of The G: everyone should know about this excellent bakery that churns out absolutely delicious danishes, good, crusty baguettes and light-as-air croissants.
Hunter Bread

They list their address as “the shop with no sign and a struggling grapevine near Princi Butcher and Zab Indian” and if that’s not a sign you are able to stumble upon some bready brilliance, we don’t know what is. Their loaves are highly sought after. The Country Wheel is our favourite for feeding a crowd. They are open from Thursday to Sunday. Order online to pick up or just turn up at the grapevine and see what’s there.
Picobello Patisserie

We can’t emphasise this enough: try the almond croissant. It has the perfect creamy custard, flaked almonds and icing sugar, and it’s big — take a friend. Or buy a few to share around. This cute spot also does custom-made cakes if you have a special occasion coming up, like Tuesday.
