The turnover of top creatives and execs is continuing with news on Monday that Peter Hawkings is out as Creative Director of the Tom Ford brand.
It’s only a little over a year since he stepped up to the senior creative role at the label but he’s been with Tom Ford for much longer having joined under Ford himself when the brand first launched.
The company shared the news in a very brief release with Guillaume Jesel, President and CEO of Tom Ford and Luxury Business Development at The Estée Lauder Companies saying: “I would like to express my gratitude to Peter for his exceptional contributions to Tom Ford from the very beginning.”
And Lelio Gavazza, CEO of Tom Ford fashion, added: “I want to thank Peter for his collaboration since Tom Ford Fashion became part of the Ermenegildo Zegna Group. Along with his team, Peter has contributed to this important initial phase of development. I wish him all the best in his next chapter.”
The exit means that for SS25 the collection will be presented in the Milan showroom in September.
The company also said that “a successor will be announced in the near future”.
Hawkings has received some good reviews for his collections, as well as some more lukewarm reviews. But Fashionnetwork.com said the AW24 collection was “magnetic… vibrant and energetic”.
His shows also managed a similar level of A-lister attendance as Ford had attracted when he was at the helm.
Zegna’s latest quarterly results in April included the news that the Tom Ford fashion business, which had been part of the group for just over a year, posted sales of €65 million in Q1, “reflecting a good performance, mainly in the United States”.
But Gavazza’s comment that Hawking’s “contributed to this important initial phase of development” suggests that someone to add some extra excitement to take the label to its next phase is on the agenda.
