Phehlukwayo could play his part against Afghanistan

The Afghanistan match gives the Proteas an opportuniuty to rest some of their key players ahead of the semi-final.

Quinton de Kock, who has played brilliantly during the World Cup, might be rested for Friday’s match, giving an opportunity for Reeza Hendricks.

Hendricks smashes 85 from 75 balls against England when he came in for Proteas captain Temba Bavuma. He could open the batting alongside his captain in Ahmedabad.

Phehlukwayo is yet to play in the World Cup but if there is a chance for him to play in the tournament, then Friday’s match against the rising Afghanistan side should be the game he’s slotted in.

The all-rounder hasn’t played enough games for South Africa leading to the Cricket World Cup but if he delivers with both bat and ball, he might be considered in the next match.

So far Marco Jansen has made the number 7 role his own and given his consistency, Phehlukwayo is likely to sit on the bench in the semis and finals should the Proteas get there.
