CNN reported that all liquor stores in Philadelphia were closed on Wednesday due to looting that occurred after peaceful protests against a judge’s decision to dismiss charges against a former Philadelphia police officer. Police made several arrests and were prepared to make more if needed. The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board closed 49 retail wine and liquor stores, 48 of which were in Philadelphia, after 18 stores were looted overnight. No employees were injured but some were shaken by the incidents. The board will assess the damage and loss before reopening the stores. Police will increase resources on Wednesday night. So far, 52 people have been arrested, including three juveniles. The looting is believed to have been carried out by opportunistic criminals not directly connected to the protests. The looters targeted various businesses, including clothing stores, pharmacies, and electronic stores. Police are investigating and will be reviewing video footage to make additional arrests.
