Pirates extend Makhaula’s contract – agent confirms

While the likes of AmaZulu were said to be monitoring his situation, Orlando Pirates have decided to extend midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula’s contract.

According to local media, the former Highlands Park and Free State Stars midfielder, Makhaula was wanted by Usuthu and Richards Bay.

Isolezwe reports that Pirates managed to fend off interest from PSL rivals such as AmaZulu and Richards Bay – they have extended Makhehlene’s contract.

The Randfontein-born midfielder, Makhehlene moved to Pirates at the start of 2023 when he joined from AmaZulu and the news of his contract extension will come as a massive boost to the fans.

Before his contract extension with Pirates, his former club Usuthu were understood to be keen to have their former skipper return to Durban on a loan deal to fill the void he left in the heart of the park.

“Makhaula is staying at Pirates. The club have extended his deal and his new contract will expire at the end of next season. If there is a team that is interested in his services, they must go talk to Pirates,” Ntshangase was quoted as saying by Isolezwe.

“The club spoke to us before the end of 2023 and coach Jose Riveiro said he still has Makhaula in his plans and he is not looking to release at this point.”

MIDFIELDER EXTENDS DEAL WITH PIRATES DESPITE PSL INTEREST

The hard-working anchorman, Makhaula completed his move to Pirates on an 18-month-long contract with an option to extend his deal for a further year – Goal reports.

In addition, the 34-year-old was doubtful to stay put under coach Jose Riveiro considering his lack of game time under the Spaniard.

However, Ntshangase insists that despite the lack of game time, Makhaula is ready to fight for his place and challenge the likes of Thabang Monare and Miguel Timm.
