Reporters of the South China Morning Post won gold in two award categories at the Hang Seng University’s 8th Business Journalism Awards.
“The awarded articles reflect Hong Kong’s business environment and trend, as they are not only reviewed by judges with media experience but also professionals from the business and finance sectors,” said Professor Scarlet Tso, the dean of the School of Communications at the HSUHK, which administers the annual awards.
More than 500 nominations were received for the awards’ nine categories, according to Tso.
“The quality of business journalism has improved,” since the awards progressed into their eighth year, said Moses Cheng Mo-chi, the chairman of the Council of the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK).
This year’s nominees were mostly “recovery stories” about “how different businesses and industries are bouncing back from the pandemic,” he said. “As usual, Hong Kong always bounces back after a tough period.”
Bloomberg also received two gold awards. Yin Chen of the Chinese edition of Bloomberg Businessweek won gold in Best Business News Reporting, while Huang Shun Yang was awarded gold in the Best Business Environmental, Social and Governance News Reporting category.
Ta Kung Pao’s reporters Li Yiu-wah, Jiang Qu Qiao, Siu Suk Fan, Wong Yu Hing and Mark Chun Wai won gold in Best Business News Series Reporting. Lee Chun Kit of the Hong Kong Economic Journal’s monthly magazine received the top honour in the Best Economic and Financial Policy News Reporting category. China Daily Hong Kong’s Chan Wai Kit won gold for Best Business Technology News Reporting.
Ming Pao’s Gary Wong was named the Young Business Journalist of the Year, a category that celebrates excellence for journalists with less than three years of full-time experience. Hong Kong Economic Journal Monthly’s Lee was named Business Journalist of the Year.
