Potential heavy rain to fall across Southern California later this week – Daily News

Dry Santa Ana winds and a low humidity system will continue for a little longer ahead of a storm system that is expected to making its way across Southern California on Wednesday, bringing potentially heavy showers in time for the weekend.

Rainfall is expected to arrive as early as Wednesday afternoon, with light, scattered showers falling across the region, said National Weather Service Meteorologist Casey Oswant. Those showers likely will come and go throughout the day and carry through Thursday.

In Orange County, about a half-inch of rain is expected to fall along the coastal and inland cities, Oswant said. Heading closer to the Santa Ana Mountains foothills, the showers could potentially drop around an inch of rain.

In cities including Anaheim and Fullerton, temperatures are expected to hang around the high 60s through the weekend.

San Bernardino and Riverside counties likely will get similar rainfall totals ranging from about half an inch to an inch. Temperatures across the Inland Empire will be slightly cooler, with highs in the mid 60s, Oswant said.

Los Angeles County will see the most rainfall this week, with about one to three inches expected to drop between Wednesday and Saturday, said NWS meteorologist Lisa Phillips.

The brunt of the storm system is expected to arrive closer to the weekend, with the heaviest rainfall anticipated to start dropping on Friday and continue into Saturday, Oswant said.

“If we do see impacts of flooding, it will be on Friday or Saturday,” Oswant said. “Its important for residents any time it rains to always be on the lookout for roadway flooding.”

The system should move on by Sunday, bringing clear skies as temperatures slowly start to rise again heading into next week.
