Premier Roger Cook heralds success of PerthNow’s Best Australian Short-Film competition

The Premier has celebrated the stunning success of PerthNow’s inaugural short-film competition, which has seen almost 600 entries with days left to enter.

The Best Australian Short-Film Competition, run by PerthNow — a Seven West affiliate — in collaboration with major sponsor SAE Creative Media Institute has seen a diverse range of high quality entries from zombie flicks to cartoons and heart-warming dramas.

Roger Cook said the nearly 600 entries across eight categories was a “great” result.

“It’s fantastic that young people, in particular, have taken up the opportunity to present their products and explore the world of film production,” Mr Cook said Wednesday while announcing the start of construction of a world-class film studio in Malaga.

“And it is a great example of our creative industries really inspiring the community. I’m very proud that the Government is as part of the funding for the competition and I’m very much looking forward to seeing the finalists.”

The contest is Australia’s richest short film competition, with a main prize of $30,000 and a total prize pool of $77,500.

Finalists will be announced on February 1 and the awards night will be live-streamed on February 29.
