The Pittodrie club now look well and truly out of the race for third in the Premiership as their 2-0 defeat to Hearts leaves them 19 points behind the Jambos, who currently occupy the spot.

Robson led Aberdeen to third place and into Europe last season after he was given the manager job on a permanent basis following a stunning run of seven straight wins while he was interim.

But the balloon has since burst in the Granite City and fans are now calling for his axe.

And UltrasAberdeen posted a picture on social media showing members holding a banner which read: “Robson must go” as they made their feelings towards the boss very clear.

The fans’ group also posted a statement, claiming the former Celtic, Dundee United and Dons midfielder isn’t up for the task at Pittodrie.

The statement read: “This is not something we want to be doing, but this can’t be allowed to go on.

“With the resources that have been made available to the manager this season, it is clear he is not of the standard required for this club.

“Invest in a manager like you have invested in the squad. While we hope a change is made immediately, nevertheless we encourage all supporters to continue to support the players on the pitch.”

Robson issued a defiant message following the 2-0 defeat at Tynecastle as he confessed third place is now likely out of Aberdeen’s reach this season.

He said: “It is a really difficult task when you look at the points difference.

“But the one thing is I’m a fighter and we are Aberdeen.

“My players are fighters and we will keep working and making sure we win the next game and keep going.

“When you come down to Tynecastle you need to play really well and everybody needs to be at it.

“We never got the luck today. I’ve watched it (the penalty) back and it doesn’t look like it’s clear and obvious.

“The one thing I was really angry about is when we gave the penalty away we never performed well after that.

“That for me as I’ve said to the players is when you go a goal down then you’ve got to be better than that in the last 25 minutes – that’s what I was angry about.”
